02Chapter
Take your time. It isn't going anywhere.
Stay as long as you like. Food is served, there's plenty to see, and it's accessible for everyone.
03Chapter
Every haunting starts somewhere.

Back in 2013, Chris was diagnosed with bladder cancer and went on a seven-year cancer journey. Throughout, Chris had the support of CancerCare North Lancashire and South Cumbria. He attended many aromatherapy sessions, which gave him an hour each week to relax and switch off from work, cancer and anything else causing him additional stress. These sessions were vital to Chris's recovery; without them, he would have struggled over those several years.
Chris's wife, Sharon, was also diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago, and CancerCare gave counselling sessions to their daughter Maisy (15 years old), which really helped her deal with her mum's diagnosis.
Chris always put on a Halloween display each year with just a few items. He then came up with the idea of using it to raise funds for CancerCare. That was six years ago!
Each year, the display and donations have improved dramatically, to the point where we ended up on BBC Breakfast with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt!
Each year, Chris is supported by his family, including his wife Sharon and daughter Maisy. He is also supported by a team working on the event: Emily and Mark from BB's Snack Bar, Simon and Rowena Hogg from the Lancaster Ghostbusters, and various volunteers dressing up and handing out sweets.
In 2027, we have two new groups supporting us: Lisa Salem and her dancers from Strawberry Dance Studios, plus potentially the Samba Espirito Drumming Band.
04Chapter
It's about so much more than Halloween. Every year, Chris's Halloween extravaganza brings the local community together for an unforgettable experience, combining incredible creativity, spectacular scares and a shared passion for supporting a good cause.
Made possible by months of preparation, countless hours of hard work and the generosity of supporters, volunteers and local businesses, the event continues to grow year after year. From the Lancaster Ghostbusters and BB's Snack Bar to everyone working behind the scenes, it takes a community to make something this special happen.
But perhaps the most important thing is what it achieves. Every scare, every visitor and every donation helps raise vital funds and awareness for CancerCare, making a real difference to people and families affected by cancer.

They'd rather you didn't see their faces. Most nights, you won't.

Chris started the Haunting, and each year he is supported by his wife Sharon and daughter Maisy. Behind them is a team that includes Emily and Mark from BB's Snack Bar, Simon and Rowena Hogg from the Lancaster Ghostbusters, and Safe Scaffolding Services, who build and supply the stage and store the display each year.
Volunteers dress up, hand out sweets on all nights and stay to help clean up afterwards. Want to get involved? Get in touch through our Contact us page.

The whole community gets involved. Local businesses rally to help set it up and sponsor it, local people help clean up, and local dance groups take part. Volunteers hand out sweets, with support from Lancaster Ghostbusters and BB's Snack Bar.
07Chapter
The reason is personal. CancerCare supported Chris through his own cancer journey, with aromatherapy sessions that were vital to his recovery, and later gave counselling sessions to his daughter Maisy after her mum Sharon's diagnosis.
Money raised by the Haunting goes to CancerCare: £8,000 in 2026, and over £21,000 since 2020, including The Big Give match funding.
